The classics — and how to approach them

• 'Tell me about yourself' — a 90-second present-past-future summary.
• 'Why do you want this role?' — link your skills and goals to what they need.
• 'Why do you want to work here?' — show genuine research about the company.
• 'What's your biggest weakness?' — a real one, plus how you're improving.
• 'Where do you see yourself in five years?' — show ambition that fits the role.

Competency questions

Expect several 'tell me about a time when…' questions. Answer these with the STAR method — Situation, Task, Action, Result — and quantify the result wherever you can.

How to prepare

• Re-read the job description and match your examples to its requirements.
• Prepare 5–6 flexible stories you can reshape for different questions.
• Research the company and have questions ready to ask back.
